The Adelphi Symphony Orchestra presents a program built around concerti grossi by the still-astounding Arcangelo Corelli. Corelli, the David Bowie of his day, was possibly the greatest violin virtuoso of all time—his concerts are documented as having attracted audiences of 40,000-plus. More than anyone, this great composer and performer expanded the technique and vocabulary of his instrument, establishing the violin as the preeminent instrument of the next 400 years.

A Flute Concerto by the Prussian Emperor Frederick the Great, a friend of J S Bach and a remarkable musician in his own right; and Bartók’s late, great masterpiece, the Divertimento, make up this programme for String Orchestra.

Conducted by Christopher Lyndon-Gee & Oswaldo Machado
