Barami Waspe is the adjunct professor of saxophone at Adelphi University.
Barami Waspe is a saxophonist, composer and educator based in New York City. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Waspe was educated in a diverse musical and cultural tradition. He mentored with the great Jazz trumpeter Mike Wade and the R&B superstar Reggie Calloway while performing throughout the Midwest. Waspe brings an honest, lyrical voice to any musical situation.
After moving to New York City, Waspe continues to perform in as many genres as possible, while also finding his own voice as a composer. He has performed with Ray Anderson, Ingrid Jensen, Tim Hagans, The Platters, The Drifters, Kiwi, Leverage Models, The One and Nines, and The Silent League. He can be seen performing in the New York area, playing Jazz, Reggae, R&B, Brazilian MPB or any number of styles.
Waspe received his bachelor’s degree from The College Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati, studying with Professor Rick VanMatre and his master’s degree from the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College, studying with Professors Antonio Hart, David Berkman and Michael Mossman. Currently he is completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University.
Waspe is the Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Adelphi University and also teaches undergraduate Jazz ensembles at Stony Brook University. As a teacher, Waspe is committed to continuing the great saxophone tradition set forth by the master Joe Allard and the Jazz language handed down by masters Barry Harris and Antonio Hart.
