East Coast met West Coast when seven Adelphi students (Allan Delarosa, Anthony Romagnolo, Fernanda Murillo, James St. John, Kristen Oldja, Muhammad Aziz and Kidan Tadesse) flew to Los Angeles to present their research at the American Physical Society’s (APS) March Meeting 2018, accompanied by Assistant Professor Matthew Wright, Ph.D., physics department chair. The five-day conference brought together more than 11,000 physicists, scientists and students from around the globe to share groundbreaking work from industries, universities and major labs.
Our students’ presentations included:
- Muhammad Aziz, Allan Delarosa and Sean Bentley: Illustrating the differences between a superposition and a mixture of states
- Allan Delarosa, Muhammad Aziz and Sean Bentley: High-resolution interference patterns using nonlinear absorption
- Kidan Tadesse and Matthew Wright: Control and stabilization of frequency and intensity of an external cavity diode laser
- Kristen Oldja and Matthew Wright: Controlling atomic excitation with frequency-modulated lasers
- James St. John and Todd Freeborn: Investigation of test fixtures and measurement configurations on the impedance of “moso” and “red margin” bamboo
- Fernanda Murillo and Aurelia Honerkamp-Smith: A bursting assay for giant unilamellar vesicles containing gangliosides
